At Royal Chundu we believe passionately in sustainable tourism. We believe that revenue from tourism should help uplift our local communities and as such we work closely with two local villages. As a family with a long history with Zambia and the surrounding area, we look to support the local communities in everything that we do. Of paramount importance is education and skill development.
Mushekwa is a neighbouring village that thrives on agriculture, while Muluka is a neighbouring fishing village. All our staff are locals who we constantly strive to promote and develop. Edith is one such Zambian local and you will find her leading our village cultural tours and growing all our veggies. We source as much of our food from these local villages as possible .
Charlton is also from the local community and started as gardener at Royal Chundu. We trained him to become our electrician and shortly noticed his passion for something wholly different – photography. After receiving sponsorship from Canon, with equipment and training included, Charlton is now our resident photographer.
The company Red Lobster assists us with skills training for the hospitality industry. We also run a small women’s project promoting production of curios and Christmas decorations made from traditional beads and local fabrics. Our social responsibility commitment also promotes therapists from the local villages, allowing previously unskilled women to be empowered by their natural abilities.
We hope that you will join us for a tour of the local villages during your stay with us as you get to know the incredible personalities that make up the Royal Chundu family.
