The best 5-star establishment I've ever visited. Intuative service, impeccable delivery of the finest hospitality available. What a treat.

We were pampered from start to finish and enjoyed the island like the happiest pair of castaways - though, we were castaways in the lap of luxury with gin and tonics flowing freely - it's great against mosquitos's, I read somewhere ;-) I have had the privilege of traveling extensively and in my career as a travel journalist, I've had the pleasure of experiencing a number of great lodges, but there's something about Royal Chundu that makes it absolutely remarkable. The staff - nothing was too much to ask for and they anticipated our every need. SK, the tiger fish I caught - I'm glad you were my witness. The river rafting, Fred, well, I enjoyed the surroundings and you paddled fast and furiously- thank you ;-) I look forward to coming back and experiencing this slice of paradise. As we left, I looked back at the Victoria Falls and saw a rainbow - and I know where the pot of gold is found - just a few km's upstream at Royal Chundu! x

Werner, Lizelle, Hessah, Emmanuelle & the rest of the team (i.e. everyone else whose names I can't remember): You guys are brilliant! Despite the fact that we got to walk with lions & fly over the Vic Falls, I think that simply our stay at Royal Chundu was definitely the highlight of our honeymoon! We only stayed for 2 nights, but were so spoilt that it felt like we were on holiday for a week. Thank you for a great stay. We'll definitely be back!

To all you special people,, How can I ever say thanks to you for the MOST WONDERFUL holiday I have ever experienced!! Royal Chundu is a “dream come true” sort of place. We were treated like royalty and nothing at all was too much trouble for the staff. In fact the staff must have been hand-picked as they just fitted in with the ambience of the Lodge. We had such fun experiencing all the activities that were given to us, and even the visit to the local village in a dug-out canoe, arranged by Hessah, was something I was so glad not to have missed. To see how the locals, who are poverty stricken, making life possible and even happy, with the little they have, was a humbling experience. Edith, the Induna’s wife, showed us proudly around “her” village, pointing out the orphans they were caring for. She showed us her little garden that she keeps alive by pumping water from the Zambezi, using a foot pump. This must take much effort and she was justifiably proud of her achievements. Hessah, one of the managers at the Lodge, is an excellent asset to the Lodge, and we are sure he could run a Lodge himself if the opportunity arose. We were very impressed by the conservation efforts being made and especially impressed at the knowledge of the bird and animal life by river guides. We were there during the elections for the new President of Zambia, but were unaffected by it all. It seems that Mr. Sata, the man who was elected, was the one that was liked by the majority of the staff, so we just hope he does not disappoint his people. At the age of 74, I personally think he is too old, but then again, their culture is so different to ours in S.A. In general I found the Zambian black people to be more hard working than our S.A black people, but then again I did not see too many of them. The Lodge itself is a good mix of the old Colonial and the modern Zambian type of hotel. As far as comfort is concerned we could not have had better anywhere I am sure. The décor, furnishings, tableware etc. was exceptional, very “Up-market” but not overstated. We both feel very privileged to have won this prize. Even in our working days, we could never have afforded a holiday of this caliber, and we just want to say a HUGE thank you to all who made it possible. May the Lord richly bless you all! Sincerely, Margie Martin …. And Terry of course.

Royal Chundu was an unforgettable experience. They seem to cater for everyone, from the hard core tiger-fishermen to those that just want to absorb the beauty of the riverside setting in luxury (I am one of the latter category!). The Zambezi is at its mile wide best, and the service, food and hospitality is of the highest standard. Emmanuel's Gin and Tonics served whilst floating down this mighty river could not be bettered, and Hessah's enchanting fireside stories of Zambia's tribal history will be remembered for years to come. Thank you for an amazing time - we will be back

What an amazing experience! The team was warm, humbling and courteous ALWAYS - wonderful evening chats with Werner, Lizelle and Hassan. First class comforts and spoiling all round, and the cherry on top - GREAT FISHING!! All finished off with a 3kg tiger fish, from a 2m high flooding Zambezi River. Cheers to Royal Chundu and the team that makes you feel like family!
